Cotton price down on 6 January, steady in India

Cotton prices were down day on day on 6 January, with Indian fibre the cheapest among the major origins of short staple length. However, year on year comparison saw Indian cotton price move the fastest (11%) while the costliest Uzbekistan origin cotton rose the slowest. Indian Shankar-6 cotton was pegged almost US cents 7.30 per pound below Uzbekistan cotton and US cents 6.30 per pound below Australian origin fibre. The nearest to Shankar-6 was US EMOT strict middling cotton.
